Cassie Absolute and Mimosa Absolute
In the realm of perfumery one encounters two different aromatic essences which are extracted from the flowers of Acacia. The golden blossoms of
Acacia farnesiana produces the Cassie concrete/absolute. This is generally extracted in France and Egypt. Acacia dealbata, A. baileyana, Acacia
decurrens and several other species provide the flowers for Mimosa absolute which is mainly extracted in India particularly in the Palani Hills and
the Nilgiri Hills of South India. During my first aromatic exploration of India I was taken into the Nilgiri Hills to see the harvest of mimosa
blossoms.
"As we went higher and higher the vistas before us became increasingly beautiful. The air was deliciously cool and refreshing. Eventually we came to
the area where the great tea plantations were located, a sight quite different than the untamed beauty of the ascent but charming in its own right
for these large estates bear the signature of order and cultivation.

Ajmer Perfume
Last newsletter I shared a recipe for Amrit (Nectar) perfume which endeavors to capture the wonderful feeling of the aromatic evening air that I well
remember from living on a small farm in South India form 1971-1976. I have been sending out small samples of the solid perfume version of it to those
of you who have placed orders in recent months.
This month's perfume is called Ajmer and celebrates the state of Rajasthan where I have lived and traveled many times in the past 30 years. In that
dry, desert landscape many aromatic plants thrive, such as Vetiveria ziazaniodes/ Vetiver, Rosa bourbonia/Edward Rose, Boswellia serrata/ Indian
frankincense, Anthocephalus cadamba/ Kadam, Nelumbo nucifera/ Pink lotus, and Lawsonia inermis/ Henna/ Hina Flower. The essences of these and other
botanical treasures have been combined in Ajmer perfume to capture the cherished feelings I have in my heart for the Land of the Kings as the word
"Rajasthan" connotes. More...

September Updates
Lime essence is now in stock. This is the essential oil produced from a gentle
hydrodistillation of the juice of lime. The odor
is very fine and
delicate as is the odor of the Essence oils of Tangerine, Sweet Orange, and Lemon which are also in stock.
Frangipani/Plumeria alba Absolute has been out of stock for several months and I just got word that there is a small amount available. Many of you
have asked for it. It will cost $180 per ounce. Please inform me of if you wish to reserve any so I can gauge my purchase. Please remember that
Frangipani Absolute is a solid waxy mass at room temperature. It requires gentle heat to melt and then it mixes well with carrier oils. It is a great
favorite of mine and is a key ingredient in the recipe for Amrit Perfume More...
