New Arrivals in JanuaryEssential Oils Absolutes Specials for FebruaryThe specials for February will be announced in the mid-February Newsletter which is now devoted exclusively to announcing the specials of the month. White Lotus Aromatics BlogIn the beginning of January I introduced two new sections to the Blog. The first is Fragrance in Literature featuring a specific author and the second is Fragrance in Travel Literature, featuring a specific country. There is a whole universe of wonderful insights that come from researching the way in which words such as smell, odor, fragrance, incense, perfume and scent appear in different types of literature. One can derive great inspiration from it. When one studies the writings of the various authors who had a good faculty of olfactory perception, one gets glimpses into realms of beauty and charm that they describe. Even though they each use the language of scent in very specific ways, one becomes aware that they are talking about a very universal experience which underlies the words which they use. Often, via the olfactory sense, they describe an experience which only comes when the wall between the perceiver and the perceived evaporates and the one in the midst of that experience steps into a timeless realm of beauty, even if it be for a brief period of time. The very same thing can be noticed about those writers traveling through new and enchanting landscapes as is depicted in the Fragrance in Travel Literature series. In most cases they have left their own countries and are journeying through new places which they have not seen before. The plants of those countries and the customs of the people of those special places with regards to the use of aromatics awakens a sense of wonder and mystery in their heart which directly connects them with the world in which they are moving. What makes all this immensely meaningful for us who may never have known these people or visited the places they are describing is that we often have access to the essential oils, absolutes, attars and co2 extracts derived from the same plants which have the odors via which they had glimpses of a refined world of beauty which moves the heart in such a profound way. By smelling those precious essences we can share in these exquisite experiences as well.
